Insurance willl not help because there is no decay or breakage. The teeth are worn from chewing. I should have had braces early in life, now I am 52 and do not want to go thru that. I was told conflicting stories. One dentist said that if we do crowns without correcting the bite first, the crowns will chip and break. Another says that crowns are so strong now and if it took 50 years to wear them this much, surely crowns would last 15-20 yrs. Do you agree? In two weeks it has not gone away. But pain pills deaden it temporarily. The pain can start anywhere---a splitting headache, front teeth. cheeks, temples, earache, neck but once the tooth/jaw starts hurting these other pains go away spontaneously. It's a mystery. At times my whole head is involved in pain, but then it settles in the capped tooth in a minute or two. Pain pills can take from 5 min. to 30 min. to work. What is wrong? I had the tooth buffed some to better the bite but it didn't help the pain. Now the tooth above it is painful too and the gum is sore. Before my orthodontist put braces on me, he pulled out 6 of my deciduous teeth as through as X ray, he could tell that they were weak and the roots were not really firm/stable. 1 deciduous tooth was pulled out in the top right part of my mouth, and another 1 at the bottom right part of my mouth. Both of them are at the same location if you count from the mid line of my mouth. 2 other teeth were pulled out from the top left part of my mouth and another 2 right below it, on the lower jaw. My doctor told me that I have to get 2 implants put in on the upper and lower left side of the jaw (where 4 teeth were pulled out) as the gap cannot be closed by just braces. Well, technically it’s possible but the midline would shift, causing my smile to be ugly. In conclusion, I want to know if it is worth investing so much money in the 2 implants. Should I just have a bridge done? My doctor says it will be a waste as the rest of my teeth are so perfect. What should I do? My braces will be off in July and I do not want to have the 2 gaps empty for long. Alternatively, would it be ok if I asked my doctor to close up the gap in the lower jaw and have an implant in the upper jaw? Would my teeth look weird? Please advice. Thanks a million. Today the swelling got pushed forward, and is now in front of my front tooth. it looks as if it has formed into a bump. There are metallic crowns and coated with ceramic. Now that the dentist asked me to go for scaling for every 6 months, i want to know whether scaling can be done on ceramic coated crowns. It started with a broken (17 year old) filling, which they replaced. When pain persisted they diagnosed me with cracked tooth syndrome, and a transilluminator revealed a fracture on the medial lingual cusp. The treatment team took a conservative approach, first reducing it with the thought of an onlay, then prepping for full crown, then when pain worsened an emergency pulpotomy right before Thanksgiving. A month ago the root canals were completely excavated of tissue, and pain persisted. Last Thursday they were shaped for filling, and the job looks "ideal" according to the endodontal specialist, but even with four shots of anaesthetic and completely numb gums, the tooth hurt severely when they tried adjusting the clamp for the rubber dam, and continues to hurt when pressed. They don't understand how I have tooth pain with the nerve long gone; they suggested that fractures under the gumline may be causing the tooth to hit nearby fibers, but they can't visualize those fractures with X-ray. I have another appt for this Thursday, and they've said it's up to me whether to proceed with the crown or opt for an extraction and implant. I don't know what would be best; they said we can wait and see if the pain resolves itself so they can proceed with the crown, but that hasn't worked so far... I had a lot of cavities as a child, but became a bit compulsive about dental hygeine when I got braces at age 10, and have had nothing but glowing dental reports since then until last spring! I use a sonicare & rinse & floss regularly. No medical issues. They say my gums are pretty healthy and the teeth all look healthy on x-ray. I'm a student without dental insurance, which is why I've been going to NYU Dental, but if you think a private practice could provide better treatment at this point, I'd be willing to pay. I’m always in pain, my cheeks hurts, my upper lips hurts, my TMJ hurts and cracks everytime I open my mouth, basically most of my muscles in my upper face hurts or are sore from the strain of my severe open bite. If I were to get my 4 top teeth removed will that help my problem, or relieve this pain. Would dentures work for me and would it make me look old(like the development of premature deep labial folds), I’m trying to retain my youth and beauty, at the same time I would like to correct my profile. The reason why I mention dentures was because I can’t afford braces at all. How can I get the dental or healthcare insurance to cover the full price for braces ($5,000)that is medically necessary and NOT cosmetic? Told that dentist B should haave seen this and not put post and crown before problem remedied. Clinic boss says not responsible and refuses to admit that dentist B was at fault by placing post and crown on tooth with poor root canal and perforated pulp canal and incorrectly placed cone. dentist D at same clinic of dentist B also agreed fully with dentist c's report although neither spoke together about this. Please give your opinion. Should dentist B be held responsible for not informing me of Dentist A's poor work on root canal and perforated pulp chamber which he should have seen and for then placing a post and crown and charging me a huge amount of money. All the people who had contracts with that office had to look for new places. My sister has not recieved any check-ups on her braces within the last two years. But afterwards, I ran my tongue along the outside of my teeth and felt what appeared to be a divot of some sort. It was fairly large (larger than I would expect to be a cavity). To take a guess about 2.5-3 milimeters in diameter. I took a closer look and it did appear dark. Of course it was in the back of my mouth, but the area was rather dark, but I feel no pain. If fact, I hardly even notice it unless I look or touch it with my tongue, which is surprising given its size. If it were to be a cavity, I would have expected to have felt it. My last check-up was in May and there weren't any problems noticed by the dentist. Wed. 8/5, I started having a problem with my sinuses. I was taking sudafed. Friday, 8/7 i started experiencing a throbbing sensation in my bottom tooth. I did the salt water rinses, listerine and developed an ever so slight abcess (very tiny). It broke and bled just a tiny little bit. I started taking motrin because it hurt and throbbed (no swelling in cheek). Sunday, 8/9 I went to a walk in clinic (medical) and they put me on amoxycillin 500 mgs (3 times a day). It's now Tuesday, 8/11 and I still have the throbbing in my tooth and it's sensitive to touch but not sensitive to hot or cold. I'm just tired of it. I called the dentist but can't get in until 9/8 and they told me that I would have to finish the antibiotic before they would do anything. According to them since this is only the 3rd day I've been on the antibiotic it still isn't thru my system and probably won't be for a couple days yet. Is this true? What else can a do to relieve the throbbing sensation in my tooth until my dentist appt. I had the tooth filled( 1st molar on the upper right side after the wisdom tooth) and afterwards I had pain if I tried to bite down on the tooth. I had it adjusted several times, but the pain continued only when I bite down. So my dentist told me because it was a large filling, it was too close to the root, and that caused my pain. So I went to an Endodontic Specialist and had a root canal. I had no infection and the specialist said that my tooth had no cracks. In a week my tooth completely stopped hurting, and I could chew on that side. I went in and and was fitted with a temporally cap, that didn't feel as good as my real tooth, but didn't hurt. When my permament crown came in they had to glue it on twice in the office, and it later popped off the next day. They reglued it again at the office, and it popped off in the office again! They reglued it once again with really strong glue. It feels like it is flexing on my tooth, and it still hurts when I bite down. I have had it readjusted three times, and now he is telling me to go back to the Endodontic Specialist, because he doesn't know what's wrong with my tooth. I've also been told by the oral surgeon in the same office that i need to get all four of my wisdom teeth out. I understand that it make sense if I do couple of implants between the missing teeth. I have e question; as you can see I don’t have the last tooth on my right side, which will help to be connected with the bridge. He said that he can just see a tiny bit of one poking through the gum but that is what it looked like 6 months ago. He knows they are in the gum from the x-ray but says nothing has changed in 6 months. He wants him to see the othodontist because he is afraid there is not room for them (thoughg admitted he really doesn't know and did not take a panoramic x-ray) and he doesn't want them to push the other teeth out of alignment. After doing a little searching on the internet it seems to me that it is not out of the ordinary for the so called 12 year molars to come in at 13 or 14 or even older. I don't want to be sold on braces that really aren't necessary. Should I be concerned and take him to the orthodontist now or can I wait a while longer? I guess I am just looking for someone else's opinion. Occassionally I would wake up and realize my gums behind my 2 front teeth would be swollen and painful. It happened again this morning. Noticed it when I woke up, before I went to bed they were fine. I brush the roof of my mouth to get any bacteria out during brushing. When I notice this, I gargle with listerine as much as I can. Sometimes it does away within the day. Other times It sticks around for days. Then I have to watch what I eat and it's uncomfortable To talk because my tounge keeps rubbing against it. Any sugestions?? At any rate, one dentist said it's ok to leave these teeth as they are, with the dentine exposed. Another one said I need crowns for all of them - I wonder if veneers could be indicated instead, if at all necessary. Could bacteria be getting into the teeth slowly so that I will eventually have pain? Could these teeth already be infected even though they don't hurt yet? By the way, I only eat complex, not refined carbohydrates or any sugar whatsoever. Filling went well however on occasion it would hurt slightly when biting. About 4 months ago I began to have lingering pain that would come and go on a daily basis. My dentist thought it could be grinding, so I bought a mouth guard. That did not help. I received a root canal 3 weeks ago, an ever since, I have still felt the same pain. Also the tooth was extremely sensitive to the touch post-operation, which I had never experienced before in the past 3 root canals I have had. My endodontist prescribed me some antibiotics, which seemed to help the sensitivity slightly but the lingering pain continued. A few days after the medicine was done, the pain remained present and I went back to the endodontist who removed the root canal inserts and disinfected the tooth with material, sealed it back with a temp filling and told me to give it a week. It is 3 days later and I am still in pain, sensitivity to touch is back, and linger pain still there. Please let me know what you think the problem could be. Unfortunately, the cost is extremely high for me to pay right now and I need to wait atleast 2 more months before I can afford to have them removed. I know that there are some problems involved when waiting besides pain but if I continue to brush and floss extremely well each night, will I be able to avoid a cyst or infection? I am having this done through a dental school. I have a Maryland bridge (#9 is a prosthetic attached to #'s 8 and 10) which has detached on one side (#10). The plan was to remove the metal from the detached tooth and leave the remaining bridge in place throughout the realignment. Spacers would be applied to facilitate the movement of teeth 11 and 6 which are in crossbite. The process is expected to take six to nine months to complete realignment. My orthodontist called yesterday to tell me they would not pursue this, but would leave the bridge in place as is. They would rather try to move 11 and 6 up, out, then down, without the spacers. This sounds like it will: 1) take longer to achieve final results; 2) may cause unecessary pain; 3) be more expensive; 4) add an unnecessary step.
