These days when esthetic is very important for the patient, dentist usually give either metal fused to ceramic crowns or the full ceramic crowns. Metal fused to ceramic crowns are usually given in back teeth and full ceramic crowns are given in the front teeth. Metal fused to ceramic crowns are very strong but as they have metal below the ceramic, opacifier have to be used to mask the color of the metal and because of that translucency is not there in the crown. It does not give very natural appearance and moreover a black metallic line is visible near the gum. All these things do not matter much in case of back teeth as the color of the crown matches with the adjacent teeth. But in case of front teeth, if the crown does not have the translucency and if the metallic line is visible that looks very bad. Moreover all ceramic crowns have sufficient strength to be given for the front teeth.
