In these financially difficult times, you certainly do wonder where you are going to get the money to meet your dental care needs. Well, there is the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) which is funded by the government and is a leader in conducting research in order to improve the oral health of the citizens. Because it is a research organization, at times it requires candidates who would like specific dental treatment and they are conducting research on those particular conditions. These are also known as clinical trials. You can find out from their website whether they need volunteers in your particular dental health concern and if they do then you will not have to pay for the treatment. They also have a list of federally funded clinical trials and if you qualify you can sign up for it.

Your next option should be dental schools. These schools train future dentists and hence they are always in need of people who they can perform the treatment on. You need not worry about them being just students and not having the right requisite expertise because they are always supervised by another trained dentist and given instructions continuously. There are several post-graduate colleges and faculty training clinics too. These have experienced, top-notch, licensed dentists supervising the entire procedure hence you need not worry about the efficacy of the dental treatment. The only flip side is that you might have to wait longer than at a dentist whose services you would be paying for but, at the end of it, it is certainly worthwhile.

There are also some federally funded health resources and service centers. Although these might not be entirely free they do provide dental care that is at a reduced cost. They have centers in every area and from their website you can find one close to you.

If you are above the age of 65 or have special disabilities then you can opt for Medicare which is a health insurance program catering to the needs of these people. But, not all dental procedures are covered in this. For that matter not even dentures.

Next, is Medicaid which provides health insurance benefits which are inclusive of dental care benefits for individuals and families. You will need to find out whether you are eligible for these benefits as different states have their own rules. Some states might not cover people who are above 21 years in this plan and so forth.

There are free dental insurance plans specifically for children. This program is called SCHIP and it is for children up to the age of 19. This program too varies from state to state in the specifications hence you will need to check with them your eligibility for the scheme.

Therefore, if you log on to the internet you will be able to find plenty of free dental options. Even if they are not completely free they are so heavily subsidized that they will seem like free.

  • Hi CHERYL WILCOX,Make sure that he doesn’t eat the foodstuff that is going to be harsh on his braces such as corn, carrots, chewing gum, nuts and so on.Anything hard that he needs to bite on and chew hard is going to be detrimental for his braces. There are also special kind of gels and pain relieving mouth washes and rinses for sensitive teeth that when used will certainly reduce or drive away the pain linked with braces. The other thing to keep in mind is that the toothbrush that he uses needs to have soft bristles so as not to disturb the area around the braces.A soft toothbrush can go a long way in making the pain of the braces vanish. He can also visit a dental school for free clinical examination and removal of braces.Hope this helps.Good luck!!!!
