It has been known since long that vitamin C is able to combat many gum diseases. In fact lot of gum diseases show up due to the deficiency of vitamin C. Vitamin C is widely found in citrus fruits like lemons, oranges, sweet limes etc. It is also found extensively in gooseberries and strawberries. There are many herbs that help you maintain good health of your teeth and gums. These herbs not only give you better oral health but also give you sweeter breath. For example, you can massage your gums with oils from various herbs like spearmint, peppermint and almond.
Oil that has been found extremely effective to keep diseases away from your gums is tea tree oil. This oil can do wonders for you teeth. You just have to put a few drops of tea tree oil on your toothbrush while brushing, and brush in the normal way. You will feel much cleaner after brushing.
You can also try green tea for oral care. The Chinese have been using it from many centuries. Green tea has special properties and when you drink green tea, it removes the bacteria from your mouth. It is helpful in maintaining oral hygiene, and therefore reduces the chances of cavities.
You can also try baking soda paste on your teeth, to remove plaque and yellowness from the tooth surface. Simply take a little baking soda, and mix a few drops of water in it to make a consistent paste-like solution. Use this paste on your toothbrush and brush your teeth like you do with ordinary toothpaste. If you want additional cleaning power, don’t forget to add a little food grade hydrogen peroxide to this paste.
Besides these natural therapies, you can definitely practice good oral care. For that, brush your teeth at least twice daily, and if possible, after every meal. Select a brush with soft bristles, and better yet, try to go with an electric one. Although there is not much difference between the two, but the electric one will tell you when the two minutes are up. Replace your brush after every 6 months. Select toothpaste that has good fluoride content. There are also some special toothpaste brands available in the market for sensitive teeth. Some of them contain salt.
After brushing, don’t forget flossing and rinsing your mouth with a good mouthwash.
