The New York Health care department offers free dental checkups and screenings for adults and children. These health camps usually go on for a month and hence lots more people can avail of these free services. There are also national initiatives to provide free dental care for children to enable them to smile trouble free. In these camps there is preventive and restorative care that is offered. There are dental colleges such as NYU College of Dentistry or the Columbia University dental school. There are also voluntary hospitals which provide free dental care in NYC. These are LIJ, Queens General, Mary Immaculate and St. Johns. The NY State dental society has also set up a program for free care which is a voluntary contribution by the dentists of the state
