Excruciating pain 3 weeks after extraction

By shannon 3/6/2017 7:59:38 AM
Please somebody help me! tomorrow will mark 3 weeks since I had a molar removed. It was the top right molar, the one before where the wisdom tooth would of been, for the first week, I felt very little pain, it would ache and throb when I first woke up, but nothing I'd not felt with previous extractions. In the second week I had completed all of my prescriptions and passed my post op check up, by the end of that week, things started to go very wrong for me. I was only able to sleep an hour or 2 before waking up with a sharp, crushing pain in my jaw hinge, my ear and into my temple, I assumed I had a dry socket and started using clove oil until I could see my dentist this week. since then, the pain has gotten so bad that i'm sleeping an hour a day, cannot perform simple task without having to stop and to hold my jaw, i've resorted to humming thru the pain much like I did during child labor and birth (which wasn't this painful). I've been taking otc ibuprofen, but that feels useless. I went to the dentist 2 days ago and she said I had no dry socket, no infection and the sight was healing nicely, she said its just the bone mending. She gave me another round of pain killers and sent me home. I am now taking hydrocodone and ibuprofen, and using lidocaine, but all of those just keep the edge off, the pain throbs, aches and feels like somebody is beating me in the same spot over and over, worse at night, the only true relief I can get, is placing ice cubes over the extraction area, or holding ice water in my mouth, but within moments of it melting, the pain is back. Please, somebody tell me what this could be.

From your symptoms it looks like that you don't have the dry socket as your dentist had also examined. Moresoever in dry socket there is no relief with cold. It looks like some other tooth is infected and causing the problem. Discuss with your dentist and get the X-ray done .When a tooth is badly infected there is pain on lying down and one cannot sleep and there is relief when the cold water is kept in the mouth.
