Do not irritate it further. but at the same time take care that it should not get infected. Gums have very good potential to heal if healthy but if it gets infected then it will get infalmmed. So do not irritate it . Do warm sqaline rinses 2 to 3 times a day and maintain very good oral hygeine. It will be fne with in 2 to 3 days. While brushing also try to be very gentle in that area. For more info on oral hygeine you can visit the following link.....www.identalhub.com/articlecategory-oral-hygiene-63.aspx

My son 15months) fell onto the corner of the bed and has actually taken the gum off. This happened two weeks ago. The gum is missing and you can see his tooth right up to the bone, with the bone exposed at the top. So basically you can see the full length of the tooth. Two Drs have both told us this will heal. But the full gum is missing. I dont see how this could possibly heal on its own? Please could you give me some advice, I am going mad with worry. Emma x

Emma, It will heal on its own. Gums have tendency to heal if they are lacerated. Make sure that the area doesn't get infected. Your son can do warm saline rinses 3-4 times a day for healing to take place and brush gently over that area. Vigorous brushing can irritate the area and will delay the healing process. To avoid any infection, make sure that there are no food accumulates or deposits around. Don't worry. it will heal in some time. If you are still apprehensive, then you can take an opinion of other dentist.
