My son is undergoing an orthodontic treatment from last 1yr. he had gap in his front teeth but now the gap has reduced. One of my friend told me that teeth shift and come back to their normal position after the braces are removed. Is this true? What is the use of spending so much dollars when the gap is still gonna be there? Please reply

When you want to find out how much will your Teeth Shift after Braces or is there a possibility that your teeth might shift once the braces are off, then the answer to that is a yes. The reason behind this is that once the braces are off, you need to wear retainers in order to make certain that you do not give your teeth a chance to move back to original position. That is the reason why retainers are always advised by dentists to be worn as soon as you have your braces off your teeth.

Having said this, you don't have to worry much about your teeth shifting once your braces are off. What you do need to keep in mind that you do all that your dentist has advised you to. Also, if your teeth do shift, it will probably be a slight shift initially. This means that you will be able to catch it in time on your visits to the dentist and therein you will be able to ensure that you start wearing the retainers in order to be sure that your teeth don’t shift any more than what is required. Retainers are a great help and they fit in snugly so that you don’t have to worry about anything else when you have them on. Also, initially when you wear the retainers you might have a bit of discomfort but that is all and it will settle down within a few hours or days. Once you have retainers, make certain that you do continue to wear them throughout in order to make certain that your teeth don’t shift at all and they remain in the right kind of position that the dentist wants them to.

You might want to consider wearing the retainers for all of 24 hours for the first week. Later on you might want to remove them in order to eat and brush your teeth and then you can start wearing them only at night.

This in turn will make sure that you don’t have to go through the entire braces treatment once again. The retainers will go on to make sure that they remain in place and make your teeth remain in the right position as well. Their sole purpose is to put the teeth back into their original place and stop them from moving about. This guarantees you the perfect smile without your teeth moving out of sync.

The shifting of the teeth once your braces are off depends on several factors and most of them are individualistic. This means that no one can decipher exactly the amount that the teeth will shift. But, one thing is for sure and that is that the retainers will certainly go on to stop your teeth from moving and spoiling the gorgeous smile that you have got for yourself with such difficulty.

When teeth shift after braces are stopped you will be able to ensure that success of the braces treatment.
