perforated sinus
By Melissa 2/8/2010 8:31:51 PM
After extracting #15 the DDS perforated the sinus. He had me blow air through my nose while he pinched it resulting in air coming from extraction site. What post-op instructions should I have? Should I be on any additional meds beside for pain?

For perforation after tooth extraction, you have to be very careful regarding not to dislodge the clot which is being formed and for that you should not smoke, donot suck anything, or use straw for drinking, avoid aerated drinks etc. You have to take antibiotics along with other meds so that infection does not set in. It will heal by itself if the perforation is small. Keep your follow up with your dentist. Dear Dr. Ritz, Thank you very much for responding so quickly to my questions. My dentist did not have me schedule a follow up appointment or prescribe me antibiotics but I will be sure to call the office and schedule an appointment. Again, thank you for taking the time to answer my questions.
