Tooth Abscess not responding to antibiotics

By Holly 7/9/2011 8:35:11 PM
I've been on a series of antibiotics for about 3 weeks (first amoxicillin and now clindamycin 450 mg, 4x a day). I've been on the clindamycin for about a week. The abscess burst yesterday: the pain is still there and it's more swollen today. I've got a lump the size of an egg on my jaw, my cheek and under my jaw is swollen. I went to Urgent Care today and the dr upped my dosage of clindamycin (he moved it from 300mb to the 450 mg). My symptoms are nausea, vomiting, chills, severe headache, ear ache, chills, swollen cheek, jaw and neck glands, and an unbelievable amount of pain. I worry that the infection is just spreading and spreading. I don't know where to go from here.

It looks like that you have some infected teeth in the mouth which can be due to decay or due to gum disease. If you are taking antibiotics since last 3 weeks and abscess is still there with pain and swelling then you must visit a dentist ASAP who will diagnose the problem and if possible drain the abscess. Donot take it lightly because if the infection spreads then it can lead to major complications.
