The dramatic reduction in the fees that are going to be charged for the registration of dental practices certainly comes as a noted announcement. The registration with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) is a major reduction. They have gone on to significantly lower the fees for providers of up to three practices. The cost of those dental practices with a single location will be reduced £800 to only £1,500 and the cost for those with two or three locations reduced from £3,000 to £1,600. This is certainly a great deal less than what one would end up paying otherwise.
Dr Susie Sanderson, Chair of the BDA's Executive Board, mentioned that they were really happy to bring down the fees. This was after dentists across England had made it known about the high fee structure that they ended up paying. Most dentists had gone on record to voice their concerns over growing red-tapism and the cost that bureaucracy had on their practices. This feedback was taken on board and worked upon.
The fees have been reduced but the other expenditure that dentists have to incur was not taken into consideration. This is the money that can actually go into providing additional patient care rather than take care of bureaucracy that can be easily avoided.
According to Dr John Milne, Chair of the BDA's General Dental Practice Committee, it is extremely frustrating for a dental practitioner to deal with the fees. This is the process that has long been followed and sadly enough no changes made to them. However, what the committee claims is that they are making a difference with the reduction of the fees that will finally percolate down to the patients.
