70 percent of Americans fear losing a natural tooth, this is a recent survey that has been undertaken by the American Association of Endodontists. Paradoxically, that same percentage of 70% also fears root canal treatment. Though, root canal treatment is the right procedure that can go on to help them save their teeth.
During its fifth annual Root Canal Awareness Week, held between March 27 and April 2, has a goal of reaching out to the public to clear the myths about root canal treatment. Most people surveyed have the false information about root canal treatment being extremely painful. At the same time, they do need to be made aware that in order to save a permanent tooth the only way is to ensure the right treatment from an endodontist and general dentists.
The most frightening things for most people when questioned were to lose a permanent tooth, get a root canal treatment as compared to paying taxes or speaking in public. Two-thirds also said that they feared root canal treatment more than having a tooth pulled or a cavity filled.
Regrettably, much of the fear of root canals information that the patients have is all on wrong misconceptions that were true for traditional root canal treatments. In fact, 93 percent agree that endodontists are important partners in delivering quality dental care.
The AAE is glad to note the connection between endodontist, dentists and the patients well being. The main aim continues to remain the best of patient experience with the most open forms of communication between doctors. This will certainly ensure that their patients leave with a fantastically positive experience.
The Root Canal Awareness Week will also provide the opportunity to broaden the public's knowledge about the importance of dentistry. This is a strategic plan to ensure that people do not hesitate to consult a dentist for a root canal and go on to save a natural tooth. This will go a long way in being able to help them maintain a healthy lifestyle.
