Taking care of your teeth is very important because if you do not take proper care of them, you will develop dental cavities, and other dental diseases. Although, dental cavities are the most common oral disease, yet they are not the only one. If you do not maintain proper oral health, you might even get gum diseases.
Tooth decay generally happens due to bad oral hygiene. If you are not keeping proper oral hygiene, you are guaranteed to suffer from tooth decay. That is not just unsightly, but painful as well. If your teeth start to rot, they will not only look bad to others, but also will produce excruciating pain.
They say prevention is better than cure and it goes very aptly for dental care. You should take care of oral hygiene, and brush your teeth at least twice daily. It is a good idea to brush your teeth more than that. You should brush your teeth after every meal, as it will prevent the bacteria from growing. You should use a good quality toothbrush, with soft bristles. You can also look for the label of ADA (American Dental Association), as those toothbrushes are quality inspected. Also, buy good brand toothpaste that has fluoride content. You can also select the different types that are good for sensitive teeth. Some of these contain salt.
After brushing your teeth, you should floss them, to remove any remaining food particles. Then rinse your mouth with water, so that the food particles are flushed out of your mouth, and as a last measure, rinse your mouth with mouthwash. This will wipe out all the remaining bacteria, especially from those areas that cannot be brushed.
In case, you have not practiced good oral care, and are suffering from gum diseases, and tooth cavities, there are a number of things that can be done to ease your suffering.
Fillings: This is the most common thing that is done when your cavity has not reached later stages. The dentist will fill the hole in the enamel with special filling material. Filling can be done with a variety of filling materials.
Root Canal Treatment: If the cavity has reached the pulp of your tooth, and is affecting the nerves of your tooth, it is important to undergo a root canal treatment. The dentist will remove the diseased pulp, and complete the treatment.
Crowns: Crowns or caps are used when your teeth cavities are past the filling stage and you have to undergo Root Canal Treatment. When the rot of your teeth has increased, you might have to go for caps.
Bridges: If your tooth or teeth are extremely badly affected by cavities, they might have to be removed. Your dentist will remove your affected tooth, and put a bridge in its place.
Apart from these traditional ways, there are many more modern techniques that are coming up for dental care. Gum diseases can be treated in similar ways. You should be careful of symptoms and contact your dentist as soon as you start feeling toothache or tooth sensitivity.
