Not all patients are capable of complete cooperation. When Behavior management techniques are insufficient to manage a pediatric patient, the use of conscious sedation should be considered. There is only one inhalation agent that meets requirements of conscious sedation and that is Nitrous Oxide.

Conscious Sedation


A minimally depressed level of consciousness that retains the patient's ability to independently and continuously maintain an airway and respond appropriately to physical stimulation or verbal command and that is produced by a pharmacological or non-pharmacological method or a combination thereof.
