Place a rubber dam around the tooth to isolate it from the body. Provide an alternative source of air to patient. Cover all skin (exposed) with material that is impermeable to mercury vapor and dust. Place a salvia ejector under the dam to remove mercury vapor that penetrates the latex. Use high volume evacuation with isolate attachment. Section amalgams and remove in as large pieces as possible. Remove and properly dispose of rubber dam and mercury after amalgam removal.
