  • Time taken to give dental implants depends on many factors like amount of bone resorption which has taken place, whether any infection is present in bone or not, quality of bone etc. If much of bone resorption has taken place, then bone grafting procedure is done along with dental implant placement or before implant placement and after 2-3 months of dental implant placement, loading of dental implant is done and abutment and crown is attached to it. Dental implants can be given immediately after extraction (Immediate implantation), 2 weeks to 3 months after extraction (Delayed immediate post extraction) or 3 months or more after extraction (Late implantation). If there is no infection in the bone and there is adequate bone present, then dental implants can be given immediately after extraction. If adequate primary stability is obtained after implant placement, then immediate loading of dental implant can be done and provisional restoration can be given over it. If adequate primary stability is not obtained, then abutment and dental crown attachment is done 2-3 months after implant placement. Without examination and x-rays, it is difficult to ascertain that how long it will take to put dental implants. You can discuss with your implantologist about it.
