Followup to terrible Weekend long toothache of abscessed molar with two root canals question from last Sunday. Family physician started clindamycin sat a.m.(penicillin allergy). Had #19 extracted Monday pm. Had much less pain Tuesday than before extraction. However pain is persisting with constant foul drainage and low-grade headache, nausea and generally ill feeling despite Advil and antibiotic. Do I need further treatment before this weekend?

  • You got the tooth extraction done on Monday and it will take some time for socket to heal and pain to go. The tooth was already infected and as it was Root Canal Treated also, so it takes time to heal. The nausea, vomitting and ill feeling can be sometimes due to medication also. If pain is less and there is no swelling that means the treatment is effective. Keep taking your meds regularly as prescribed by your dentist. Along with these maintain very good oral hygiene and follow all instructions given by dentist. How much time it will take for healing to take place depends on the type of extraction but it will take another week for complete healing.
