I discovered a black spot in my mouth. I had a tooth pulled there over a year ago and no there's a painful black spot there. I could feel part of a bone or tooth there.

  • Thank you. That's what I had planned. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't something overly serious. Again thank you

  • Black spot after tooth extraction can be there because of tooth fragment which is left after tooth extraction or can be a bony flake. If tooth fragment less than 5 millimeters in dimensions is left after tooth extraction, then it usually resorbs on its own but if the tooth fragment which is left is larger in size, then it will not resorb and causes pain and can even lead to infection later on. It can also be a bony flake present there. Without clinical examination, it is difficult to give definite diagnosis. You can visit a dentist for evaluation. If it is a tooth fragment which is left, then it can be removed. Dentist will numb you and then can remove the tooth structure which is left behind. If it is a bony flake, then it can be smoothened or removed.
