  • Swelling of the gums on back bottom tooth can be there because of food accumulates in relation to tooth, infected tooth or can occur because of wisdom tooth eruption. Yellow string like thing must be food particle or deposits present and not the nerve. Plaque and food deposits due to inadequate oral hygiene measures can lead to swelling of gums and can lead to soreness. Infected back molar tooth can also lead to swelling of the gums. If wisdom teeth are erupting, then they can also lead to swelling and soreness of gums. Without clinical examination, it is difficult to give definite diagnosis. You can visit your dentist for evaluation and treatment. If there are food deposits present, then dental cleaning can be done to remove them and if the back molar tooth is infected, then treatment is done for infected tooth. If wisdom teeth are erupting and they are impacted, then surgical extraction of wisdom tooth can be done. By the time, you visit your dentist, you can do warm saline rinses 3-4 times a day to reduce the swelling and maintain good oral hygiene to avoid any deposits. Make sure to brush till the last molar.
