I just had my ortho treatment for midline diastema. why is frenectomy indicated in the treatment? What will happen if it isnt conducted?

  • Frenum attached too high can lead to gap between front teeth and can lead to recession of the gums. Frenectomy procedure is done right before or right after braces come off.  If frenectomy treatment is not done, then failure of orthodontic treatment can take place. Frenectomy can be done with surgical procedure with scalpel or can be done with lasers. Frenectomy with lasers is less invasive and less painful as compared to scalpel frenectomy.
