  • Only the antibiotics are not going to cure the infection.  Infection is not going to reside till the focus of infection is found and is cured.  You need to firstly get the diagnosis done as to what is causing the infection. Infection can be because of tooth abscess, some deep cavity, gum infection, some impacted tooth or cracked tooth. Treating infection is also important. Antibiotics only prevent and reduce the infection. If the infection is in the form of abscess or any tooth has deep cavity or there is cracked tooth, then root canal procedure is required for it followed by capping. If there is gum abscess present, dental cleaning and may be gum surgeries are required to treat the infection. In case of impacted tooth, extraction of impacted tooth is required to reduce infection. You need to get treatment done for your infected tooth after getting the diagnosis done. Only antibiotics will not serve any purpose. To avoid infections, it is also important that you maintain a good oral hygiene by brushing and flossing regularly. You should also get routine check ups after every 6 months along with the cleaning.
