I had an upper side tooth (#12) extracted yesterday afternoon. How long before I can drink beer?

  • After tooth extraction, patient should avoid alcohol and smoking as it delays the healing process of extraction socket and can cause dislodgement of clot and infection. You can take alcohol after 48 hours after tooth extraction but take it in moderate amounts. Some of the medicaments which are given after tooth extraction may also react with alcohol and cause reaction so it’s better to take alcohol few days after tooth extraction only. For faster healing of the socket, you can do warm saline rinses 3-4 times a day. Avoid smoking and keep the extraction socket area clean to avoid any secondary infections. Follow all the instructions of your oral surgeon and take the meds as prescribed.
