we have been advised by a orthodontist to have a frenectomy done for our daughter who is 10 yrs old.she has a lump of skin between her two front teeth.he also told us that if we have the frenectomy done then we should also extract her two front teeth.we are very confused of wether to have it done or not as the gap is not very big and my daughter is also not comfortable doing it, please advise.

  • Norally there is the attachment of the lip to the gums and this is called frenum. some times it is more then normal and causes the teeth to move back creating the gap. in that case the frenum has to be incised and this procedure is called frenectomy. If the frenectomy is not done and the orthotreatment is done to close the gap then the relapse is there as the frenum again pushes the teeth. so frenectomy is advisable where it is high causing the gap. But to extract two front teeth is not done . It is difficult to comment on that with out Seeing the cae clinically but if you are not satisfied then you can take the second opinion.
