My 6 yr old son has a lg gap between his top two teeth and his dentist states he needs a frenectomy. Where he cuts and removes the tissue. I have a few questions. Is laser or cutting it out have better results? Will this allow the gap to close or will he still need braces later, and if so should we wait to have done? When is the best time to have it done now as the new teeth are coming in or later with orthadonitics?

  • It is better to get it done now if the labial frenumis really causing the gap as the teeth are coming and they will naturally move to fill the gap. In such cases it is possible that you will not be needing the braces treatment later on if the alignmentofthe tooth is other wise o.k. But if you delay and wait till all the adult teeth are erupted then it is difficlt to move the teeth to fill the gap naturally. \In that case after frenectomy you have to go for the braces treatment.
