  • Tooth can break because of trauma to the tooth or because of biting something very hard on tooth. Treatment for broken tooth depends on whether it is front tooth or back tooth and also depends on the amount of tooth structure which is broken. If it is a front tooth and small portion of tooth is broken, then dental bonding can be done to restore the tooth and if it is a back tooth, then dental crown is given to restore the tooth. If the nerve of the tooth is also involved, then root canal treatment followed by dental crown is given for the tooth. If the tooth is badly mutilated, then root canal treatment followed by post and core build up and dental crown is given. Root canal treatment will remove the infection from the tooth. Post and core followed by dental crown will provide strength to the tooth and will reinforce the weakened tooth structure. If it is a front tooth, then you can get porcelain dental crowns or porcelain fused to metal dental crown for the tooth and if it is a back tooth, then PFM dental crowns or metallic dental crowns can be given. If not much of tooth structure is left and tooth can’t be restored, then tooth extraction will be required. In case of tooth extraction, missing tooth can be replaced with dental implants, dental bridges or partial dentures. Dental implants are the best option for replacement of missing teeth. Visit your dentist asap for treatment. By the time, you visit your dentist, avoid eating from that side of the tooth and maintain good oral hygiene to avoid any secondary infections.  For more info on fixing chipped tooth, refer to….   http://www.identalhub.com/article_how-chipped-tooth--is--fixed-by-dentist-790.aspx
