  • Pain on back gum region can be there because of wisdom tooth eruption. Wisdom teeth usually erupt in late teens. When there is not enough space for wisdom teeth to erupt, then the tooth becomes impacted and cause swelling of the gums and jaws and can lead to pain which may also be radiating to head and neck. Wisdom teeth come at the back of mouth. Pain on back of gums can also be there because of gum infection present. Without clinical examination, it is difficult to give definite diagnosis. You can visit your dentist for evaluation. Your dentist can take an x-ray to see that whether wisdom teeth are erupting or not. If wisdom teeth are impacted, then they can be pulled out. Wisdom teeth don’t aid in mastication and no treatment is required for wisdom teeth. Impacted or infected wisdom teeth are removed. By the time, you visit your dentist, you can do warm saline rinses 3-4 times a day to reduce the swelling and avoid eating from that side of mouth. Maintain a good oral hygiene. Food accumulates in relation to back of jaw will aggravate the pain.  For more info on wisdom teeth, refer to…..    http://www.identalhub.com/dental-frequently-asked-questions-about-wisdom-teeth-920.aspx
