Had sore molar when chewed on. Dentist ground off top of crown no problems indicated on x-ray. Pain went away but abscess formed 3 weeks later at tip of root. Abscess cleared up with antibiotics. Is root canal really necessary or can I wait to see if pain returns?

  • If abscess is already formed once in a tooth then that means the vital part of tooth ie pulp is already infected and tooth is dead. So you have to go for root canal treatment in such cases as recurrence is very common. Now the abscess is subsided due to antibiotics but again it will be formed. Not only this, the repeated formation of abscess causes the bone loss and ligament attachment and can cause the mobility of tooth. sometimes lateron it becomes difficult to save the tooth even by RCT. So it is better you go for RCT now and donot wait for recurrence to happen.
