My mother just got a partial lower denture that only hooks on two her back two caps. It is not staying in place. The dentist put on what he called a cushion and then we put an adhesive (polygrip)but as soon as she puts something in her mouth the denture falls out. Is there anything that you can suggest? She is elderly and not a candidate for implants.

  • Retention of lower partial dentures is not that good because of less surface area of lower arch and because of tongue which can lead to less stability and retention of lower denture. It will take some time for your mother to get adjusted to the partial dentures. She can continue using denture adhesive for better retention of partial denture. If the retention of denture doesn’t improve, then you can visit your dentist for evaluation. If the occlusion of the denture is not correct or in case of thick margins of denture, retention of denture is not good and your dentist will be able to correct it.  For more info on dentures, refer to…
