  • If wisdom teeth are infected or are impacted or are poking the cheeks, then they are pulled out. Most of the times surgical tooth extraction is done to pull out wisdom tooth. If teeth are fully erupted, then simple tooth extraction can also be done to remove the tooth. Local anesthetic shot or conscious sedation will be given to you before pulling out the teeth. If it is a difficult tooth extraction or if the patient is apprehensive, then tooth is pulled out after giving conscious sedation. If it is a simple tooth extraction, then tooth will be taken out with a dental forceps after luxating the tooth with dental elevators.  If it is a surgical tooth extraction, then a cut or incision is given on the gums and tooth is taken out after tooth sectioning and or bone cutting. After surgical tooth extraction, dissolvable or non-dissolvable stitches will be given to you. After tooth extraction you have to take the meds and antibiotics as prescribed to you by your oral surgeon to avoid pain after tooth extraction. To avoid chances of dry socket or secondary infection after tooth extraction, you have to follow some instructions of your dentist like avoiding use of straws, smoking, sucking and spitting too much after tooth extraction.
