I've had TMJ ever since I can remember (4th grade at least). Earlier this year, my dentist told me that I need to fix it before the damage was irreversable. So, he recommended a specialist. I went to the specialist and they asked me what I wanted to get out of it (pain relief, headaches, ect.). I told them that all of the symptoms were just annoyances and that I was only there to get it fixed. Again, I stressed to them that I wasn't there to just relieve symptoms. My only reason was to get the disorder fixed. They fitted me with a dental splint, telling me it was a cast to heal my jaw and to coax the displaced discs back into place as well as reposition my jaw to it's proper place. My last visit (a month later), they were asking how my symptoms were improving. None improved and in fact, my headaches got way worse. They then told me that the splint was there just to releive the symptoms. I feel conned. I told them over and over again that my symptoms weren't why I was there. Now, I'm out $1,400. Will the splint fix my tmj after my 6-8 month period of wearing it? Does a splint do anything to actual fix the jaw?

  • It is difficult to comment on this with out seeing the case but if you are seeing the speciaist then you should have faith and do as is told. If the symptoms are relieved that means your jaw has gone to the normal position . if you want to know more about the TMJ you can visit the following link....www.identalhub.com/article_what-is-the-treatment-for-tmj-disorders-196.aspx
