I think I may need a filling. I feel a small crack in between my gum line and front tooth. It is sensitive to hot and cold. I am brushing with a sensitive toothpaste with enamel rebuild. I used to use a mouthwash but it gave me a really painful canker sore. I am scared to go because every time I get work done, I feel this sharp and uncomfortable cold sensation. Do I need a filling? What can I do to not feel that cold sensation?

  • If the tooth is sensitive near the gums then definitely you need the filling as this is the cervical abrasion. If this is not filled then it gets deepened and the tooth can become infected. Some times because of this cut near the gum the crown part of the tooth fractures leaving the root part of the tooth. This cut is filled with the composite filling material. for more info o composite restoration you can visit the following link...http://www.identalhub.com/articlecategory-composite-restorations-75.aspx
