In the past week I have noticed a brown colored surrounding the edge of a filing I had replaced a few years ago after it had cracked the first time. I have been having more tenderness in the whole tooth when I brush and eat and am concerned that it may be decaying from the inside? any more info you can give would be helpful!

  • if there is discoloration around the filling then it is the secondary caries. With time the previous filling gets resorbed and the gap between the filling and the tooth develops from where the leakage is there which causes the secondary caries. Now you have to visit the dentist and get the filing replaced. If the decay is deep which the dentist will come to know after taking the X-ray and clinical examination then may be the root canal has to be done.
