i noticed some extra tissue under my three year old tongue. He talks and knows what he wants to say but has a problem speaking clearly. most people have problems understanding what he's saying. could this tissue be causins some type of speech delay

  • Yes, the prolem can be dUe to the extra tisse. it is the lngual frenum which is normally there and attaches the tongue to the floor of the mouth. But some times it is extra and hinders the movement of the tongue which is very important for the speech. In such cases the child has the problem in normal speech. There is a treatment available which is surgical. In which this extra tissue is removed and this is called frenectomy.
