My teeth seem to be in pretty good shape; no sensitivity, no pain, nice and white, etc. However, there are small spots on two of my front teeth, close to the gum line that are starting to worry me. They're small, very specific spots; light brown in color. Are these cavities? Again, no sensitivity and there is no overall discoloration --- just these very small spots. One of them literally seemed to appear overnight. I understand that the only way to be 100% certain is to visit a dentist, but I don't have the money right now (I'm a freelance journalist with really lousy insurance that I had to get on my own) and visiting dentists makes me anxious/nervous, etc. I'm just wondering what they might be and if I should try to do some home treatment first vs. getting to the dentist immediately.

  • The light browns spots on front 2 teeth can either be stains or it can be the decay that means the cavity formation has started. If it is staining then it can be easily removed by cleaning and there will not be any catch point. For removing the staining you can brush the teeth in that area properly and may the stains will go and if it is decay then you have to go to dentist to get it filled. It is better not to delay the things and visit the dentist as in the initial stages of decay, you donot have any sensitivity or pain. If you donot have any insurance you can go to some dental school for consultation or can check for annuouncements for free dental clinics being organised by dentists on In your case diagnosis can only be made after clinical examination.
