  • The recession of the gums can be because of brushing too hard, can be due to braces treatment or can be because of traumatic bite. Some gum problem can also lead to recession of gums. If it is because of brushing too hard, then you have to stop that. Make sure that you don’t brush too hard that the gums get receded.  Lower teeth normally don’t strike the upper teeth but if the lower teeth are striked by the upper teeth, then the gums take the toll and get receded. This is known as traumativ bite. If the bite is not correct, then you have to consult your dentist for getting it corrected.  If it is because of some gum problem, then you have to maintain good oral hygiene for this. There should be no plaque and calculus deposits around the teeth. Brush and floss regularly to avoid any food deposits.  The receded gums will not go back to their normal position on their own. If there is sensitivity of gums because of gum recession, then you can use desensitizing tooth paste for it. You can also go for restorations with composite or glass ionomer cement if there is sensitivity and pain in the area of recession. Depending on the amount of recession which is present, gingival grafts can also be given to rectify the problem. You need to consult your dentist for this.  For more info on how gingival grafts help in gingival recession, you can refer to the following article…. http://www.identalhub.com/dental-how-gingival-graft-help-in-gingival-recession--715.aspx
