I recently had an accident and never even knew I had a papillea until the last cpl of weeks when it became enlarged and tender. Will this go back to normal size & is there anything I can do to help this process?

  • It is not very clear from your question, which papillea you are talking about. In dentistry, mostly the papillea between the two front teeth gets normally enlarged. The main cause of this enlargement is either some injury in that area or the poor oral hygiene.  Normally the papillae, not enlarged is lying at the back of front two teeth but when it becomes enlarged, it comes in front also. This papillea is called incisive papillea. The treatment for this is, not to irritate it further, maintain very good oral hygiene and do warm saline rinses 2-3 times a day. You can apply some gum paint available OTC. For more info on dental topics you can browse our Q&A from forum... www.identalhub.com/ForumCategory.aspx
