I had a root canal on an abscessed tooth. Two days after that my jaw swelled; doctor opened abscess and drained it. My jaw has been numb for 1 month. Dr. says swelling compressed the nerve which caused the numbness. He said it may take months for it to go away. Do you think the numbness is temporary or permanent?

  • Sometimes because of abscess the nerves do get compress and numbness is there but this numbness should go once the abscess is treated. It may take from 3 weeks to 6 weeks for numbness to go and sensation to come back. If your root canal is done and abscess is healed so you can waint for another week or two and if it does not come within 6 weeks  the you should call your dentist to see whether the abscess is fully drained or not.
