I discovered that I have it after I broke a tooth from biting down so hard. I have been wearing a nightguard, but my jaw is so sore afterward. My jaw doesn't hurt when I don't use the nightguard, but I worry that I am risking another cracked tooth. Which is the better risk? Hurt my jaw or risk my teeth? It seems the nightguard just gives me something to clench down on. Thank you.

  • It is not good to risk your teeth but at the same time your jaw should not be sore by wearing the night guard. Night guard is supposed to relax your muscle not make them sore. It looks like your night guard is not properly made. If it is professionally made then when you close your muth the teeth are properly occluding and the muscles are relaxed.  It is better to get a new night guard made professioally.
