  • Condition of tongue tie is known as ankyloglossia. When the frenum is high, then frenectomy procedure is done for it. Tongue tie is caused by abnormal development of tongue.  Tongue can’t move freely in this condition. It can cause difficulty in swallowing and speech and affects appearance of face and teeth. High frenum attachment in upper jaw can lead to gap between teeth which will further compromise the esthetics. Surgery for tongue tie and high frenum attachment can be done by an oral surgeon.  Your kids can get laser treatment done or can get surgery done with scalpel for its correction. Type of procedure adopted depends on tissue attachment or cooperation of the patient. Laser treatment is less painful and is comparatively costlier than the scalpel treatment. For high frenum attachment in upper jaw, frenectomy procedure is required.
