  • Degree of swelling and duration of swelling after tooth extraction is in direct proportion to degree of surgical trauma to the tissues. It varies from person to person. Swelling becomes more pronounced 2-3 days after tooth extraction and then it regresses. Infection of tooth extraction socket can aggravate the duration and degree of swelling.  Headaches and pressure sensation can be there because of muscle spasm. Roots of upper wisdom teeth are close to maxillary sinus and maxillary sinus communication created during extraction can also lead to complications.   Without clinical examination, it is difficult to give definite diagnosis. You can visit your oral surgeon for evaluation. By the time, you visit your oral surgeon, you can continue with gentle warm saline rinses for faster healing of extraction socket to take place. Take the meds as prescribed and keep tooth extraction socket area clean.
