  • Wisdom teeth are also known as third molars and are present distal to second molars. They usually erupt in late teens but may erupt at age of 30-40 in some individuals. If wisdom teeth are impacted that is there is not enough space for wisdom teeth to erupt or if they are infected or in case, they are causing any other problem, they are removed. Wisdom teeth don’t aid in mastication and are susceptible to infections so they are mostly removed. Surgical tooth extraction is done for impacted wisdom tooth in which wisdom tooth is removed after giving a cut on gums and tooth sectioning/ bone cutting. To control pain after wisdom tooth extraction, pain meds are given and healing of wisdom tooth extraction socket may take 3 weeks to 3 months depending on amount of trauma to the tissues during extraction.
