hello Dr ,my upper canines were extracted due to some problem,now my Dr was closing these spaces with power chain but still the spaces r not closed properly there r gaps about 2 mm on both sides,now my Dr says these spaces would be closed with retainers,i just want to ask that can little spaces can be closed with retainers,r retainers used to close spaces about 1 or 2 mm or they just maintain the new positions of teeth. plz explain

  • No retainers are not used to close the spaces. They are used to maintain the teeth in their normal postion after braces. Sometimes removal braces can be activated to close small spaces but the fixed type of retainers cannot be used to close the spaces.
