Hi, I had my two lower wisdom teeth removed through a surgical procedure. After 4-5 hours the anesthesia had ran its course but the left side of my tongue remained numb. Is it common to feel that way? It's been a week and it's still numb. How long on average does it usually take to get the sensation back?

  • The lingual nerve must have been injured while extracting the lower wisdom tooth on that side. This has resulted in a paresthesia. Since nerve tissue regenerates very slowly, it often can take a long time. If you have a tingly feeling, instead of total numbness, that is a good sign that the damage may not be extensive and healing will occur more quickly. You should let the dentist know what is going on so that he may monitor the situation...for more info on complications after tooth extraction visit the link...http://www.identalhub.com/dental-complications-after-tooth-extraction-881.aspx
