I had a wisdom tooth extraction 9 days ago, since my dentist know me know that it was infected.. I have been on augmentin 1g BD since the last 10 days. The surgical extraction was difficult, but for the first 3 days after the surgery I saw an improvement in swelling. At the 4th day, I started having a low grade fever, and at the 5th day Metronidazole 500g TDS was added to my treatment. However, today, the fever has returned, and there is now a little fluctuant bump where the gum of the canine joins the floor of the mouth. (near the tongue side) . The pain starts from the angle of the jaw to the left of the floor of the mouth and to the ears. the little bump is not painful. Any ideas?

  • If even after so many days of wisdom tooth extraction, you have pain, swelling and fever that means there is secondary infection in the extraction socket. For this you are already taking antibiotics and even the metronidazole. You have to schedule an appointment with dentist and discuss your symptoms with him and without seeing case clinically it is difficult to give you the advice. May be you need higher dose of antibiotics. Till then keep doing warm saline rinses and maintain good oral hygiene and schedule an appointment with your dentist asap. for more info on problems after tooth extraction, you can check this link in our website.... http://www.identalhub.com/dental-complications-after-tooth-extraction-881.aspx
