a week or so after an extraction, my dentist decided to file off some of my jawbone that was protruding from my gums, and stitch it. now, ten days later, my chin and lower lip are numb. is it possible the nerve was damaged, and if so, will it heal itself, or can it be repaired?

  • It is very unlikely that nerve can damage by filing the bone as the nerve is quite deep in the bone and moresoever if the numbness has to occur then it will occur at that time only and not after 10 days. So it is better you do a followup visit to your dentist and find out the exact cause. Normally the nerve damage regenerates and it can take upto 6 months. for more info on problems after toothe extraction you can check this link in our website... http://www.identalhub.com/articlecategory-tooth-extraction-27.aspx
