60 year old female just had first adult tooth pulled because the tooth broke off on the front of the tooth. That was 3 months ago. In the last month the front of the upper wisdom tooth on the right side broke and today the molar on the left next to the eye tooth on the bottom broke the same way. What could be causing this to happen.

  • In  few cases heredity and old age are the contributing factors for brittle teeth.Teeth tend to erode and become chipped. This can happen during normal activities such as chewing and biting. Even small accidents can chip portions of a tooth off.You can try the following tips,to stop the factors that cause brittle teeth:

*Chewing on a clove of garlic is really helpful in strengthening brittle teeth.

*It is not a wise to brush right after drinking coffee, soda frizz, or fruit juices. The acid content of these beverages softens the teeth’s surface so, brushing can easily damage and strip off the enamel.

*Instead of drinking a flavored beverage, drink cool water to quench your thirst. Not only will water rid your teeth of harmful acids, but it will help your overall health.

*Drink milk regularly. Calcium is needed to keep your teeth healthy and strong.

The remedy for these severe cases is to get veneers or dental crowns. If a brittle tooth is just chipped at a certain portion, then veneers are a good remedy. If there are huge chunks of your tooth missing, then a dental crown is a good solution.  Consult your dentist for advice.
