I had a root canal on #19 in 1999. In 2009 I had to go in for re-treatment. Recently it has been hurting and a small swollen abscess emerged and went away on the inside gum. I went to an Endo who said he thought the root was fractured and that it had to be extracted. I then went to the Perio who said he didn't think it was fractured but that #19 was suffering from external resorption, and he recommended extraction and implant. (for the bargain price of $4K) I have included links to the 2009 xray and the xray taken 2 days ago. Does this look like an obvious extraction case? yesterday's xray: http://static.checkdent.com/forum/uploads/0_503d5846816e52012.jpg 2009 xray: http://static.checkdent.com/forum/uploads/0_503d583e3e9892009.jpg

  • From the Xray that was taken on 2009, it is clearly visible that the GP points (material used to fill the empty canals) is overfilled and is going beyond the roots. And the latest Xray showns an abscess underneath that root and is periodontal abscess. You definitely DONT require extraction and implants but many of the dentists will do this. I would recommned you to go for "Regenerative Periodontal Endoscopy" which is not only less costly but is less invasive too.
