My 6 year old had a baby tooth pulled today by our dentist because the permanent tooth had already erupted behind it. During the extraction the tooth root cracked and left a small shard of root in my childs gum. The dentist didn't seem to think this was a problem. Do I need a second opinion? Will my child have to have oral surgery to remove the small shard? The tooth root is cracked up the center, with an inverted V-shaped shard missing from the middle. Should I request xrays? How serious is this?

  • Yes i think u should go for Xray of the root .As if the root piece is very small and tiny then u can leave it as it will come out of its own in sometime. But if the root piece is of considerable size then go for its extraction and get it pulled out as then it can become a nidus for infection.Go for Xray and show it to ur dentist for consultation...............for more info refer the link..................http://www.identalhub.com/dental-tooth-extraction-in-children-894.aspx
