i am the patient of oral submucous fibrosis please tell me about this dieases my mouth open to 20 cm and i want to ask u that its important to give up habit of smoking? and if yes its not easy for me b/c i was a chain smoker and now i smoke 10-17 cig in a day what can i do?

  • Oral Submucous Fibrosis is the inflammation and fibrosis of the submucosal tissue of the oral cavity. The end result of OSMF is inability to open the mouth ( Trismus).  Any part of the oral cavity can be involved, even phynx also, but buccal mucosa is the most commonly infected site. Another condition causing OSMF in betel nut chewing.


    The treament include Injections of placental extract but they will work only if you will quit smoking. The best way to quit smoking is to chew nicotine free chewing gums that are available in medical shops. Also you got to have a strong will power.
