Hello, I am in need of a cleaning as well as root planing. My dentist says that it's good to have a cleaning before root planing because it recedes the gum line by reducing inflammation, thus allowing for deeper root planing. However, I've also read that getting a cleaning right before root planing is a waste of time. What is your opinion? Thank you, Taylor Barker

  • Whether cleaning should be done before root planning or not depends on amount of deposits and the condition of gums. If there are lot of deposits and gums are inflammed and bleeding then it is better to get the general cleaning done before the root planning because it will help in reducing the inflammationa and healing will be good after root planning. for more on SCRP you can read this link in our website.. http://www.identalhub.com/dental-why-root-scaling-and-planning-is-good--716.aspx
